What's your manifesting style?
Your manifesting style can be as simple as asking for something or looking out for opportunities instead of waiting for the ones we think are best, which ultimately helps me feel more confident in my ability to manifest anything I set my mind to.

According to Human Design we all have a style of manifesting that works for us, which is a thought that I find incredibly freeing… not all of us need to create a vision board, a specific list of things we want and by when.
There are four types of Manifestation Styles which is a mix of the following two variables:
- Active or Passive, and
- Specific or Non-Specific.
Are you an Active or Passive Manifestor?
This is about how our physical body connects with our environment and how we experience life, in this case our desires. Are you someone who is active and likes to move around, shake things up and have things to do? Or are you more passive and like to float through or be more still in your space and watch what is happening?
When it comes to manifesting this is about actively participating in the manifestation process or setting intentions and letting them come to you.
Are you a Specific or Non-Specific Manifestor?
This is about how our conscious mind visually takes in information. Do you have a focussed (specific) or a peripheral (non-specific) view perspective? In other words, is it more natural for you to remember in specific details or in a more broad, general way?
When it comes to manifesting this can look like being very specific in the details or leaning more into the idea, theme and feelings of what we want to manifest.
Isn’t it liberating to know we’re not all created the same? And if for instance you’re more passive like me, that you no longer need to cringe or force yourself to make a vision board? Instead you can float in your imagination, full of creativity and inspiration and set your intention from there. Bliss!
The four styles of manifesting
Let’s look at the variables together – making four styles of manifesting.
Specific and Active: Design in detail and then build it
It’s like giving the universe an exact drawing or list of specific details of a puzzle you wish to do and when you are doing the puzzle, you put the pieces together and are so satisfied that it is exactly as you pictured.
In life this looks like:
- getting clear on the specific details of what you want
- setting your goals and timelines and tracking your progress
- writing detailed 5-year plans
- participating in manifestation exercises that you enjoy – vision boards, magic cheques, life scripting, brainstorming and researching activities, etc
- tidying and decluttering your space, while actively appreciating the things you have (even dusting off trophies, photos of things you’ve created/achieved or want to) and let it energise you.
Non-Specific and Active manifesting styles: Design the idea and then build it
It’s like giving the universe an idea of the puzzle you wish to do and when you are doing the puzzle, you put the pieces together and are surprised and delighted by what you were given.
In life this looks like:
- getting clear on the idea, feelings and general “rules” of what you desire
- actively holding those feelings through your intention
- participating in manifestation exercises like creating and watching mind movies, creating mood boards or crystal grids that are centred around ideas, themes and feelings – not specific details, etc
- tidying and decluttering your space, while actively appreciating the way your space makes you feel (even dusting off photos, paintings that make you remember or feel a particular way) and let it energise you.
Specific and Passive manifesting styles: Design in detail and allow it to be built for you.
It’s like giving the universe an exact picture or list of specific details of a puzzle you wish to do and then when you are doing the puzzle, letting the puzzle pieces come together for you. You’re in awe as you stop doing… what you wanted comes together exactly as you specified.
In life this looks like:
- getting clear on the specific details of what you want
- setting your goals
- surrendering to divine timing
- practicing being in flow and open to receiving
- observing the things you desire through things like visualisations, setting up specific cues in your environment, meditating,
- observing the things you desire in yourself and other people/environments from an open-hearted space
- tidying and decluttering your space in order to create more flow and relaxation in your sacred space.
Non-Specific and Passive manifesting styles: Design the idea and allow it to be built for you.
It’s like giving the universe an idea of the puzzle you wish to do and then when you are doing the puzzle, you let the puzzle pieces come together for you. You’re in awe as you stop doing… what you wanted comes together, you are surprised and delighted by the details.
In life this looks like:
- getting clear on the idea, feelings and general “rules” of what you desire
- setting your intention
- surrendering to divine timing
- practicing being in flow and open to receiving
- observing the things you desire by setting up cues in your environment that elicit certain feelings (photos, paintings, crystals, etc), meditating,
- observing the themes and feelings you desire in yourself and other people/environments from an open-hearted space
- tidying and decluttering your space in order to create more flow and relaxation in your sacred space.
What is my manifesting style?
Simply check the two bottom arrows on your Human Design chart and what way they are facing. If you have already had a reading with me, you will be able to see this in your chart in Chapter 2.
If you haven’t had a reading, you can pull up your free Human Design chart on MyBodyGraph.
Now just for fun before you go running off to check what yours is, take a moment and consider:
- What one of these manifesting styles most resonates with you?
- What one have you experienced to work with most ease for you?
- What style do you perceive to be the best one?
- Do you most often try to manifest with the one you perceive as the best? Is it the same as what your Human Design suggests as most natural for you?
Personally I’ve been taught to manifest like a Specific Active person and I love talking to Specific Active types because the ones I know are in alignment with their style and manifest like a superstar! So you can imagine my inner critic would go nuts when I used to try to manifest like this – I would end up overwhelmed, tense and frustrated with myself.
When I learnt that my manifesting style is actually Specific and Passive, it made so much more sense! When I looked at the things I had tried to manifest in the past – the things that most often worked where from this energy, the ones that didn’t come to fruition often had that active energy behind it or I wasn’t in alignment with it.
What if my manifesting style doesn’t work for me?
It is really important to note that manifesting (even when we think we’re doing it all “right”) doesn’t always just happen at the click of our fingers. There is an internal process that happens within it.
And so I urge you to really take the time to reflect on your own process and life. You might want to look at the key fundamentals of manifesting in “Getting into alignment with our desires”.
It’s really important to note that when looking at our Human Design chart there are so many more aspects that come into play in conjunction with our arrows. For instance:
- Working with or against our natural energy type, strategy and authority. Working against these things can create more tension and chaos in our life and keep us stuck in survival emotional states over elevated and creative emotional states.
- Defined gates and channels (eg. Gate 5: Gate of Fixed Patterns and Gate 15: Gate of Extremes, Gate 28: Gate of the Game Player, Channel of Emoting, Channel of Struggle) that may play out in a bigger way depending where they show up in our charts.
- Open energy centres that are urging us to build a deeper understanding and connection with ourselves and our worlds, so that we really master life lessons and have continual learning and growth.
- Living life from our ‘Shadow’ or ‘Not Self’ which can keep us stuck in repeated patterns, thoughts and beliefs – and ultimately keeps us playing small and not living to our full potential.
- Missing key elements of our Gene Key activation sequences which may mean that you have a few things to contemplate and integrate before manifesting the thing you desire.
And this is just from a Human Design perspective. Personally I love using my Human Design as a guide however it’s not the ‘be all and end all’ – it’s only one tool in my inner work tool kit. Sometimes other tools lead me further into my process but this gives me some incredible information as a starting point, so that I can contemplate the possibilities and truth in it for myself.
If something doesn’t sit well with you, make the time and space to reflect, enquire and contemplate – it can be as simple as getting your birthdate and time wrong on your reading, it can be that you are stuck in your own way and patterns it’s hard to see outside of them, maybe you need to talk it through and see it from another perspective or maybe this just isn’t the tool for you right now.
And if that’s the case, you might want to head over to “Can you really manifest your desires into reality?” for some tips, tools and suggestions on where to go from here.
